The RFX Pro Series ST rear brake pedal is designed and tested for the demands of top-level riders. It is made from tough 7075-T6 aluminium and uses an OEM-style forged shaft. The shaft has a smooth finish, which reduces the wear that ridged designs often suffer from.

The flexible tip is CNC machined from billet aluminium. It is spring-loaded and can rotate, so it can spin when it takes a knock, for example in a rut, which helps limit damage. Steel teeth improve grip when conditions are muddy, while a built-in stop limits rotation to 90 degrees to guard the pedal against further damage. It also comes with a cable brake snake, which helps stop the shaft bending in a collision.

Fitting instructions

• Before you start, note or mark the height of the pedal tip relative to the footpeg.
• Pull out the split pin or R-clip at the back of the brake bolt, behind the frame.
• Remove the pivot bolt that holds the pedal to the frame.
• Unhook the return spring from the pedal and let it hang.
• Swing the pedal outwards to expose the split pin at the back of the pedal clevis.
• Remove that split pin and the locating dowel, and the rear brake pedal will come off.
• Take the oil seals out of the old pedal, clean them and fit them to the new pedal.
• Clean every part using a multi-purpose lubricant (for example Maxima MPPL) so it is ready to go back on.
• Fit the brake clevis back on with its locating pin and split pin.
• Refit the return spring.
• Grease the pivot bolt with Maxima waterproof grease, line up the pivot hole and slide the bolt back in.
• Tighten the pivot bolt to the torque given in your owner's manual.
• Refit the R-clip or split pin at the back of the pivot bolt.
• With the pedal fitted, set the pedal height and free play: loosen the nut above the clevis and turn the plunger bolt in or out as needed.
• Next, fit the brake snake.
• Japanese models: take off the nut and washer from the lower engine mount, then use the new washer on the brake snake in place of the old one.
• KTM models: take off the new washer attached to the brake snake and set it aside, as the KTM does not need it. Wrap the cable round the lower engine mount, then seat it back inside the crimp fitting.
• Tension the brake snake correctly, allowing enough slack for the pedal to travel downwards.
• Crimp the fitting closed with pliers and trim off the excess cable.
